The show itself was fantastic, however, there were many tourists who talked alot during the show, took pictures (with flash) and videos, despite signs everywhere not to take them. I would recommend the show, provided stricter methods are taken by the staff to ensure the safety of the artists performing in the future. Dear Klook, thank you for the amazing experience. You have shown me how irresponsible a tour operator can be. Recently I have signed up 4 different daily tours + 2shows with Klook. All in Beijing. There has been no update on the pick up time for ALL tours even till the night before the tour. Upon calling the Klook helpline, I was informed by Klook employees that I need to call the local 3rd tour operator directly to confirm the timing. I would like to ask Klook what is the role you are playing and what have you done to earn the commission in this arrangement. If I need to call the local 3rd party operator directly, I might as well sign up with the hotel saving me the hassle and also the hefty overseas call charges. I am only leaving 1 star as this is the minimum. If I could, there will be no star. Dear Klook, thank you for the amazing experience. You have shown me how irresponsible a tour operator can be. The Yeomen of the Guard (1888), their only joint work with a serious ending, concerns a pair of strolling players—a jester and a singing girl—who are caught up in a risky intrigue at the Tower of London during the 16th century. The dialogue, though in prose, is quasi- early modern English in style, and there is no satire of British institutions. For some of the plot elements, Gilbert had reached back to his 1875 tragedy, Mens Mens Viper Oiled Suede Sneakers Amiri 4vG1af
. The Times praised the libretto: "It should... be acknowledged that Mr. Gilbert has earnestly endeavoured to leave familiar grooves and rise to higher things." [73] Although not a grand opera, the new libretto provided Sullivan with the opportunity to write his most ambitious score to date. The critics, who had recently lauded the composer for his successful oratorio, The Golden Legend , considered the score to Yeomen to be Sullivan's finest, including its overture, which was written in sonata form , rather than as a sequential pot-pourri of tunes from the opera, as in most of his other overtures. The Daily Telegraph wrote:

The accompaniments... are delightful to hear, and especially does the treatment of the woodwind compel admiring attention. Schubert himself could hardly have handled those instruments more deftly, written for them more lovingly.... We place the songs and choruses in The Yeomen of the Guard before all his previous efforts of this particular kind. Thus the music follows the book to a higher plane, and we have a genuine English opera.... [74]

Yeomen was a hit, running for over a year, with strong New York and touring productions. During the run, on 12 March 1889, Sullivan wrote to Gilbert,

I have lost the liking for writing comic opera, and entertain very grave doubts as to my power of doing it... You say that in a serious opera, you must more or less sacrifice yourself. I say that this is just what I have been doing in all our joint pieces, and, what is more, must continue to do in comic opera to make it successful. [75]

Sullivan insisted that the next opera must be a grand opera . Gilbert did not feel that he could write a grand opera libretto, but he offered a compromise that Sullivan eventually accepted. The two would write a light opera for the Savoy, and at the same time, Sullivan a grand opera ( Ivanhoe ) for a new theatre that Carte was constructing to present British grand opera. After a brief impasse over the choice of subject, Sullivan accepted an idea connected with Venice and Venetian life, as "this seemed to me to hold out great chances of bright colour and taking music." The Kurds

The Kurds, who share ethnic and cultural similarities with Iranians and are mostly Muslim by religion (largely Sunni but with many minorities), have long struggled for self-determination. After World War I, their lands were divided up between Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Turkey. In Iran, though there have been small separatist movements, Kurds are mostly subjected to the same repressive treatment as everyone else (though they also face Persian and Shi’ite chauvinism, and a number of Kurdish political prisoners were recently executed). The situation is worse in Iraq, Syria, and Turkey, where the Kurds are a minority people subjected to ethnically targeted violations of human rights.

Iraq : In 1986–89, Saddam Hussein conducted a genocidal campaign in which tens of thousands were murdered and thousands of Kurdish villages destroyed, including by bombing and chemical warfare. After the first Gulf War, the UN sought to establish a safe haven in parts of Kurdistan, and the United States and UK set up a no-fly zone. In 2003, the Kurdish peshmerga sided with the U.S.-led coalition against Saddam Hussein. In 2005, after a long struggle with Baghdad, the Iraqi Kurds won constitutional recognition of their autonomous region, and the Kurdistan Regional Government has since signed oil contracts with a number of Western oil companies as well as with Turkey. Iraqi Kurdistan has two main political parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), both clan-based and patriarchal.

Turkey : For much of its modern history, Turkey has pursued a policy of forced assimilation towards its minority peoples; this policy is particularly stringent in the case of the Kurds—until recently referred to as the “mountain Turks”—who make up 20 percent of the total population. The policy has included forced population transfers; a ban on use of the Kurdish language, costume, music, festivals, and names; and extreme repression of any attempt at resistance. Large revolts were suppressed in 1925, 1930, and 1938, and the repression escalated with the formation of the PKK as a national liberation party, resulting in civil war in the Kurdish region from 1984 to 1999.

Syria : Kurds make up perhaps 15 percent of the population and live mostly in the northeastern part of Syria. In 1962, after Syria was declared an Arab republic, a large number of Kurds were stripped of their citizenship and declared aliens, which made it impossible for them to get an education, jobs, or any public benefits. Their land was given to Arabs. The PYD was founded in 2003 and immediately banned; its members were jailed and murdered, and a Kurdish uprising in Qamishli was met with severe military violence by the regime. When the uprising against Bashar al Assad began as part of the Arab Spring, Kurds participated, but after 2012, when they captured Kobani from the Syrian army, they withdrew most of their energy from the war against Assad in order to set up a liberated area. For this reason, some other parts of the Syrian resistance consider them Assad’s allies. The Kurds in turn cite examples of discrimination against them within the opposition.

many colleges have become much more competitive

The biggest problem with applying Hoxby's findings to today's college students is that many colleges have become much more competitive since the paper was published. Many of the colleges she includes as examples of colleges that are selective, but not as competitive as the Ivy League and some exclusive liberal arts colleges, are now in the top tier of selectivity. That doesn't mean her findings are invalid, but it makes it more difficult to apply to individual situations now.

A more selective college is likely to pay off over the long run. Two economists, Stacy Dale and Alan Kreuger, have researched whether elite colleges really lead to higher lifetime earnings when you take other factors into account, such as students' academic background and the other colleges where they were admitted. The colleges they examined were a fairly small group that ranged from selective but less prestigious institutions such as Wesleyan and Xavier to Yale, Stanford and Harvard.

attending a more elite college really did boost lifetime earnings

Dale's and Kreuger's research found mixed results for many groups on whether attending Stanford over Wesleyan was worth it. But for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, or for students who were black or Latino, they found that attending a more elite college really did boost lifetime earnings.

Because Dale and Krueger looked at decades of earnings data, they researched students who started college decades ago, in 1976 and 1989. But their rationale seems as if it could be true for today's students as well: "While most students who apply to selective colleges may be able to rely on their families and friends to provide job-networking opportunities, networking opportunities that become available from attending a selective college may be particularly valuable for black and Hispanic students, and for students from less educated families," they wrote.

You may be the kind of student who will succeed whether you attend Wesleyan or Yale. Dale and Krueger's research found that if you take not just students' own academic backgrounds, but their parents' education and the other colleges to which students applied into account, the earnings advantage for the most elite colleges virtually disappears.
Students who were admitted to a highly selective college but ended up enrolling at a slightly less selective one had almost identical earnings at age 35. And it turns turns out that simply aspiring to attend a highly selective college is a strong predictor of lifetime earnings. As Dale wrote about her research in Forbes magazine , "Who you are matters more than where you go to college."
Whether that's ultimately reassuring or depressing depends on your point of view.

The verdict: The state flagship university is probably worth it, at least if you're a white man. Mark Hoekstra, an associate professor of economics at Texas AM University, Mens Carmons Oxfords BOSS 5AtsGDkwN3
white male students who just missed the SAT cutoff for admission to the most elite public university in an unnamed state with those who were just above the cutoff. The men who were admitted to and attended the flagship university earned about 20 percent more between ages 28 and 33 than the men who did not.
